Pentadyne/Liebert Flywheel Energy Storage System Wins the 'Perfect 10' Award
Chatsworth , Calif. - Nov 20, 2006 - Pentadyne Power Corporation ( www.pentadyne.com ), the world's leading commercial manufacturer of clean energy storage systems using advanced composite flywheel technology, announced today that it, together with distribution partner Emerson Network Power ( www.emersonnetworkpower.com ), have jointly won Consulting-Specifying Engineer magazine's "A Perfect 10" award for the flywheel energy storage systemthey market to businesses requiring reliable power quality.
The Perfect 10 Awards were established to present Consulting-Specifying Engineer's (CSE) readership - primarily engineering and consulting firms - with the top new products in the mechanical, electrical, plumbing and engineering system disciplines. CSE ( www.csemag.com ) regularly covers HVAC, building automation, fire protection, communications, security, electrical and other systems as a practice of integrated engineering, where the various disciplines work together to produce more efficient systems and buildings .
Through a two-part process, products were first screened by a panel of expert judges. CSE's more than 46,000 readers then had the opportunity to vote to select the most outstanding of those selected products. In the power generation category, the Liebert FS flywheel system (manufactured by Pentadyne for Emerson Network Power) was the clear winner.
"Our clean energy storage system was up against nine other exceptionally well known competitors' products in its broad category," said Pentadyne President & CEO Ma rk McGough. "We are honored that the majority of readers of Consulting-Specifying Engineer magazine voted our product to be ' A Perfect 10.'"
CSE Chief Editor Jim Crockett said that the judging panel thought the Liebert/Pentadyne flywheel "provided a great alternative to traditional static UPS in that it gave options and a chance for more flexibility, particularly when space for traditional UPS batteries is not readily available. Some of the judges also felt flywheel-based systems could add even greater reliability for emergency power situations."
Pentadyne's flywheel systems supplement or replace lead-acid battery arrays used with uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems. Batteries are commonly acknowledged as the least reliable component in a UPS system, demanding frequent and costly maintenance and replacement. Chemical batteries also introduce significant health and safety issues due to their corrosive materials, hazardous fluids and explosive gas emissions. Pentadyne flywheel systems are seen as a more reliable form of energy storage that is far less costly over their 20-year design life than commonly used valve-regulated lead-acid (VRLA) batteries.
