Pentadyne #1 in Worldwide Sales of Flywheel Energy Storage Systems
Chatsworth, Calif. – July 30, 2008 – Pentadyne Power Corporation, the world’s leading manufacturer of flywheel clean energy storage systems, has eclipsed Active Power (NASDAQ: ACPW) as the world’s number one producer of flywheel energy storage systems.
For the first half of 2008, Pentadyne has shipped 34% more flywheel systems than the former market leader, Active Power.
Pentadyne President & CEO Mark McGough said, “Pentadyne’s growth continues to outpace that of our competitors, thanks to an extremely reliable product that is sold through the top channel partners in the industry. At a challenging time for capital expenditure sales, we are still growing at a rate of over 40%. We set a goal to become #1 in world flywheel sales in 2008, and we are very pleased to have achieved that goal.”
Pentadyne systems also offer greater value in terms of energy efficiency – 90% less standby energy use than that of the Active Power CleanSource flywheel – and fewer, shorter and far less costly maintenance needs because the service-intensive vacuum pump and mechanical bearings have been engineered out of the product.
“Even though our 190-kW product has only been commercially available for just over 24 months, it is an inherently reliable product, and reliability is what customers pay for in the backup power market,” said McGough. “We expect that our next generation products will see similar market uptake.”
Flywheel systems are frequently used as a supplement to or a complete replacement for hundreds of hazardous lead-acid batteries commonly deployed with large-scale UPS (uninterruptible power supply) systems at data centers, hospitals, financial transaction companies and other mission-critical facilities and functions. In these applications, flywheels deliver much higher reliability, uptime availability and cost reduction while being a sustainable, environmentally responsible choice for UPS energy storage.
Exhibiting at upcoming trade shows
Emerson Network Power next week will be showing the Liebert FS, which includes a Pentadyne flywheel system, in its exhibit at the Next Generation Data Center tradeshow in San Francisco August 5-7. Also on August 7, Toshiba will be exhibiting its G8000 UPS with the Pentadyne flywheel at the Texas Association of Broadcasters tradeshow in Austin, as well as next month at the Healthcare Facilities Symposium in Chicago September 9-10.
