18
Chatsworth, Calif. – Oct. 15, 2008 – Pentadyne Power Corporation, the world leader in flywheel energy storage systems, today announced that Department of Defense contractor Beaver Aerospace & Defense has awarded Pentadyne its Critical Supplier Award.

This Critical Supplier Award was presented to Pentadyne “for meeting the rigorous quality and delivery demands” of the military deployment program.

Last year, Beaver Aerospace & Defense placed a $4.5 million order for Pentadyne DC energy storage systems that are being deployed at military sites. Beaver Aerospace’s procurement of Pentadyne systems has continued with follow-on orders this year totaling $4.9 million.

In Beaver Aerospace’s Department of Defense energy recycling applications, the DX-A2 rated (certified for national defense use) flywheel system absorbs regenerative energy of a decelerating mass and stores it until later reused to accelerate the mass. This is similar to the way hybrid vehicles capture deceleration energy and later release it to aid acceleration and minimize fuel consumption.

Unlike batteries, the Pentadyne flywheel:
• stores energy kinetically instead of chemically
• is able to absorb and release energy much faster than lead-acid batteries
• performance is unaffected by repeated charge/discharge cycles
• needs near-zero maintenance
• lasts more than 20 years (vs. 2-4 years for batteries)
• is far less costly to operate
• is sustainable and much more energy efficient than lead-acid batteries (and 8 to 10 times more efficient than other flywheels)
• has only half the floorspace needs and one-quarter the weight of a comparable capacity battery array
• contains no hazardous materials.

“I’m proud Beaver Aerospace has chosen Pentadyne energy recycling systems for use in these vital national defense facilities,” said Pentadyne President & CEO Mark McGough. “The superior performance and reliability of our product has proven to be a perfect fit for this need, and I’m proud that the Pentadyne product and its employees have earned this Critical Supplier Award.”
Beaver Aerospace Program Manager Jim Diroff said, "We have been very pleased with the performance of the Pentadyne product in a very demanding application. Pentadyne’s commitment to sales and service, both before and after the sale, along with their on-time deliveries, have clearly distinguished them as a Critical Supplier to our program’s success."

Presenting at Upcoming Trade Show
Pentadyne’s Sales & Service Vice-President Johnny Gonzales will be presenting November 5 at 3:30 p.m. on flywheel technology at the Onsite Power/Remote Expo trade show in Atlanta, Georgia.

About Pentadyne Power Corporation
Pentadyne is the world’s leading manufacturer of flywheel energy storage systems used for energy recycling applications and to replace hundreds of lead-acid batteries used with large-scale UPS (uninterruptible power supply) systems. Flywheels made by this Inc. 500 listed company deliver an order of magnitude greater reliability than batteries, need near-zero maintenance and have a footprint and lifecycle cost less than half that of batteries. Using 90% less power than other flywheels, this sustainable and environmentally responsible system is sold by several of the world’s leading UPS manufacturers. An ISO-9001-certified company, Pentadyne designs and manufactures its products in Greater Los Angeles.

About Beaver Aerospace & Defense, Inc.
Beaver Aerospace & Defense, a subsidiary of Phillips Service Industries, provides ballscrew and actuator products for a variety of commercial and military aircraft as well as missile applications.
