Pentadyne Flywheel Energy Storage Fleet Exceeds 3.5M Operating Hours
Chatsworth, Calif. – Dec. 3, 2008 – Pentadyne Power Corporation, the world leader in flywheel energy storage systems, today announced that its fleet of installed products had exceeded a total of 3.5 million hours of reliable operation at end-user sites.
Three and a half million hours is equivalent to 400 operating years.
Pentadyne-made systems are sold by several of the world’s leading interruptible power supply (UPS) system manufacturers.
The company’s flywheel energy storage systems are used as a supplement to increase the reliability of conventional UPS lead-acid battery arrays, or to entirely eliminate them and their associated costs, frequent maintenance issues, health & safety risks, poor reliability and environmental impact.
Pentadyne systems are also used in energy recycling applications in which the flywheel efficiently absorbs energy output by direct current motors, stores it, then makes that renewable energy available for later use by the same or other DC motors.
“Achieving 400 operating years in only five years of commercial sales is a testament both to the rock-solid performance of the Pentadyne flywheel as well as its exceptionally value to our customers,” said Pentadyne President & CEO Mark McGough. “I’m especially proud that daily operation of our products greatly improves reliability, saves money and delivers the most energy efficient and sustainable energy storage source to mitigate the environmental and human toll of hazardous lead-acid batteries.”
Speaking at energy conference tomorrow
Pentadyne will be presenting tomorrow morning at the Montreux Energy Advanced Energy Storage conference in San Diego.
